Selected The Circle Dance Paneurhythmy - In one of the most poetic and inspiring visions in The Revelation, St. John describes the Lamb standing on Mount Zion with 144,000 people having his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads and singing a new song:
All the images in this celestial vision have a deep symbolic meaning
and can be interpreted in relation to the coming new epoch of Aquarius. The song which the 144,000 were singing ('which only they could learn') is the 'initiatic song' for the coming new epoch of Aquarius. The epoch of Aquarius is the epoch of the Holy Spirit, the great cosmic-spiritual Spring in life when humankind returns back to the Kingdom of God. There is an ancient proverb: 'When Nature renews itself, the birds sing. At the beginning of every Divine culture human beings sing. When the world is re-created, the angels sing'. Hence, the 144,000 fully enlightened human beings around Christ, and all the angels in Heaven, sing the song of the great renewal of the world and the dawning of the new epoch in the history of humankind. It is a staggering coincidence that in a completely different tradition - that of the American Indians - we find similar archetypal images. The Hopi prophecy says:
In August 1987 millions of spiritual people celebrated the end of a great cycle of time - 22,880 years (covering practically all of human history) - and the beginning of a new one associated with the ascent of humankind to a new state of cosmic consciousness. A beautiful vision based on the Hopi prophecy says that 144,000 Sun Dance enlightened teachers (representing all humankind) are invited to dance at sacred places all over the Earth and celebrate the beginning of the new epoch in human history. Both visions - that of St. John from The Revelation and that of the
Hopi prophecy - belong to completely different traditions and are separated
by hundreds of years, but nonetheless they have much in common: the 144,000
initiates, the full enlightenment of each human being, the cosmic-spiritual
music and dance in Divine service, the feelings of joy and ecstasy in
anticipating the return of humankind to the Kingdom of God. 1 A Hopi Prophecy, Acorn Publishing, Glastonbury, p. 24.
The Paneurhythmy was created by the great Bulgarian spiritual Master Peter Deunov (1864 - 1944). It is a synthesis of the entire Teaching of the Master and contains the living seeds for the new epoch. The spiritual legacy of the Master includes more than 6,000 lectures comprising of about 100,000 pages, 150 original songs, the circle dance Paneurhythmy, thousands of spiritual exercises and experiments, and advice for practically every aspect of human life on Earth.
The power of the Paneurhythmy as a sacred dance is based on its synthesis
of spiritual Music, living Light, sacred Words, archetypal ideas and psychic
movements. The Divine Music, Light, Words and Thought-forms are the substance
of the higher spiritual realms. Hence, the Paneurhythmy, an organic synthesis
of these celestial constituents, provides a very powerful and rich experience
of the higher worlds.
The spiritual, celestial Music is based on different principles than ordinary human music. Human music follows the evolution of musical language and its meanings are an historical-cultural product. They are related to the life of society and the role which music plays in it, fulfilling many functions - from entertainment and leisure, through the formation of the emotional world of human beings, to expressing the spiritual atmosphere of historical epochs. Human music develops its language by using sounds and their tonal organisation and imbuing them with a great variety of cultural meanings. In contrast, the celestial Music reflects the living, creative, sounds of the Universe which are interwoven into the reality of all spiritual worlds. From this perspective, celestial Music penetrates and permeates everything - the Universe, the planets and stars, Nature and the human beings themselves. Everything 'resounds' throughout Creation and for each being its sound determines its essence and constitutes its very existence. Hence, the celestial sounds are objective music and have the power of cosmic-spiritual creativity. When initiates tune to the celestial Music of the spheres, of Nature, or the human being and try to re-create this Music, their songs and dances have the power to transform the energy in Nature, to model the destiny of the human being and society, and to become channels for direct communion with the higher spiritual worlds. For this reason, the celestial Music brought down by initiates is an objective art of transformation and plays an extremely important role in every spiritual tradition. There is virtually no spiritual school where music does not play a substantial role in the methods and techniques for spiritual transformation. The great transformative power of the Hindu ragas, Sufi dances, Zen meditation music and the cosmic hymns of Sri Yogananda are essential foundations of their spiritual teachings. Music has an important function in the spiritual school of the Master Peter Deunov also. The songs of the Master, bringing down the vibrations of heavenly Music, are heard throughout all the activities within the spiritual community - in the Paneurhythmy itself, in the sunrise ceremony, in community celebrations and feasts, before and after gatherings and lectures. The songs play an important part in the individual work of the disciples as well. Through them they receive blessings and impulses for transformation of their physical, psychological and spiritual energies, helping them to establish direct contact with the spiritual hierarchy in the invisible world. In accord with the initiation of the Master which comes in the cosmic-spiritual Spring, the songs and musical exercises cover a broad spectrum of genres. For instance, a large group of songs (Venir-Benir, Vehadi, Kiamet Zenu, Bershid Ba, Fir-Fur-Fen, etc.) connect us with the reality of the last Golden Age on Earth. The texts of these songs are written in an ancient spiritual language, Vatan, which predates Sanskrit. These songs build a very subtle musical bridge between the last Golden Age and the coming new one. There is another large group of songs (Mahar Benu Aba, Neva Sanzu, The Spirit Whispers to Me, etc.), closely linked to the previous, which expresses the spiritual world of the disciples. These songs are 'sound pictures' of the path of the disciple. They depict the blossoming of the human soul and the musical aspect of the cosmic-spiritual consciousness which fills all thoughts, feelings, actions, relationships - even the life processes like breathing, eating and moving - with spiritual music, harmony and beauty. Many of the songs of the Master such as 'Spring', 'The Music of the Brook' and 'March of the Light Forces', help us to link with the spirits of Nature and the higher celestial realms. These songs 'materialise' in sound the ethereal musical vibrations of invisible light beings and can open our spiritual senses, enabling us to see them. Another group of songs (Meditation, Eternal Truth, Inspiration, The Inner Voice of God) are Divine melodies which come from very high spiritual worlds as living messages from them. By listening, by concentration and meditation on them, we raise our consciousness and become able to enter into these mystical worlds. Some songs, for example 'Our Father', 'In the Beginning was the Word', 'The Ninety-First Psalm' and 'The Prayer', are like prayers in musical form and help us to express, in a very natural and emotional way, our feelings of devotion to God. In order to create a joyful, friendly atmosphere within the spiritual community, the Master composed songs full of cheerfulness, rhythm, charm and even humour (The Fire is Lit, Sweet-honey, Everything in Life is Attainable, Good Day, etc.). They are performed in celebrations, in group gatherings, feasts and on many other festive occasions of the community life. There are also many songs, melodies, and musical exercises connected with Bulgarian folk music and some Middle Eastern folk music traditions. The Paneurhythmy includes exercises with music from almost all the different musical genres composed by the Master. They form, however, a very natural, rich and organic wholeness. One could say that the Paneurhythmy represents a spiritual musical encyclopedia and introduces the participants to beautiful celestial worlds expressed in musical forms. In the Paneurhythmy we can find songs bridging the reality of the last and the coming new Golden Age (for instance, 11. Evera). The music of many exercises links us with the musical vibrations of the Nature spirits, the elements, the Earth and the Sun (1-10. The First Day of Spring, 18. Beauty, 19. Mobility, 21. Joy of the Earth, etc). The music of other exercises contributes powerfully to the creation of a warm friendly atmosphere among the participants (24. How Happy We Are, 26. Early in the Morning). The whole Paneurhythmy in general, and some exercises in particular, express the spiritual world of the disciple and the process of the blossoming of the human soul (14. Thinking, 15. Aum, 16. The Rising Sun, 22. Acquaintance). The music of one of the movements in the first part (24. How Happy We Are) and almost the whole second part of the Paneurhythmy ('Sunbeams') is based on Bulgarian folk rhythms. It is a good example of the Divine work of the Master on the Bulgarian folk music, elevating it to the harmonious and tender musical vibrations of the celestial worlds. Some of the exercises in the first part (for example, 17. Square) and the whole third part of the Paneurhythmy ('Pentagram') amount to powerful active and energising 'musical mantras'. The musical spectrum of the Paneurhythmy is so vast and varied that it contains even exercises with a hint of humour (12. Jumping). The musical component of the Paneurhythmy is essential to its spiritually
transformative power. By dancing, listening to the music and singing the
words, we raise our consciousness to the higher celestial worlds. We become
sensitive, subtle and tender 'musical instruments' reverberating with
the Divine Music of Life. If we consider the organic link between the
Music and the other celestial components, such as the living Light, the
sacred Words and the psychic movements, then we will understand the great
importance of the Paneurhythmy as a Divine message for the new epoch of
Aquarius. The Master Peter Deunov blessed us with a very special and sacred book - The Testament of the Colour Rays of Light. In this book the Master selected from the Bible verses, which God addressed to the prophets or spoke through Jesus Christ, and linked them to colour rays of Light, human virtues and Divine qualities. The book reveals the secret of the human being in the manifested universe - beginning with birth from God as a Divine spark, through the conscious spiritual path as a disciple in the worlds of Light, to the return back as a son or daughter of God and final mergence with Him. The book also contains esoteric keys to the initiations of the epoch of the Old Testament, the epoch of the New Testament and the coming epoch of the Holy Spirit. Each verse of the book can become a basis for reflection, meditation and practical work with the colour rays of Light. Thus, the Master bestowed on us a special type of spiritual practice based on the colour rays of Light. The esoteric foundation of the Paneurhythmy is directly connected with the mystery of the colour rays of Light revealed by the Master. The structure of the Paneurhythmy and the esoteric meaning of the colour rays which it conveys are comparable to the structure of the Master's book, The Testament of the Colour Rays of Light. The Paneurhythmy starts with a series of movements - The First Day of Spring (1-10). This series is the introduction to the Paneurhythmy and contains in seed-form all the ideas of the Paneurhythmy which will be unfolded later. This introduction is like a living seed of Light containing all colour rays within itself, ready for opening and blossoming. In a similar way to the Introduction of the Master's book, it gives us an impulse to perceive Nature, the Earth, the Sun - all the Universe and ourselves - as a Divine Temple where God lives. It reminds us that we are children of God and invites us to return to the Father's house. The next series of movements (11-16) is the mystical core of the Paneurhythmy. Each of the movements is connected with a particular colour ray and introduces us to a beautiful world for spiritual work: 11. Evera - pink; 12. Jumping - red; 13. Weaving - green; 14. Thinking - yellow; 15. Aum - from blue to violet; 16. The Rising Sun - white. On a micro-level each movement is linked with the opening of our chakras through an appropriate synthesis of music, colour, words and movements; on a macro-level it offers us a possibility for inspiring spiritual work in the world which a particular colour ray reveals. This series of movements corresponds to the chapters of the Master's book consecrated to the different colour rays where each one of them is like a great spiritual university. Exercise 17. Square opens the third series of movements in the Paneurhythmy. It introduces us to the reality of the Kingdom of God through the symbolic language of sacred dance. By performing a living mandala in the form of a square inscribed within the circle, we activate the creative colour rays of Light which comprise the substance of the New Heaven and the New Earth. The powerful music working as a mantra, the symbolic sacred movements and the communion with the creative colour rays make the movement 'Square' a magical entrance into the Divine reality. The four subsequent movements of this third series - 18. Beauty, 19. Mobility, 20. Conquering, and 21. Joy of the Earth - can be associated with the four elements, air, water, fire and earth, which in their high etheric vibrations form the substance of the New Earth and the New Heaven. By performing each one of these four movements and invoking their subtle colours - sky-blue, aquamarine, red and green - we can experience the great beauty, creativity and harmony of the new reality. The last series in this section of the Paneurhythmy starts with 22. Acquaintance. It is one of the most joyful and inspiring movements in the Paneurhythmy. In love, friendship and harmony we dance together with the partner. We see each other in the depths of our eyes, recognising our Divine essence, and then, looking at the sky, we give thanks to our Heavenly Father/Mother. Following this most inspiring spiritual experience, the next movements of the series bring us back to the Earth in order to establish the reality of the Kingdom of God on it. Beautiful Day (23), How Happy We Are (24), Step by Step (25) and Early in the Morning (26) suggest a harmonious and creative work in partnership to bring the new reality down on Earth. This interpretation is reinforced by the movements of the exercises, most of which are done together in pairs with the emphasis on the feet. The colours of these movements include all the colours of the rainbow, intermingling and forming a beautiful new transfigured world on Earth. There is a connection between the diffused colour rays of the first ten movements and the integrated colour rays of the last movements. The light of the first movements represents a living seed containing all colours of the rainbow within; the integrated colour rays in the last movements are the result of our journey to the Kingdom of God and our return back to establish this reality on Earth. Thus, through the dance we create a great rainbow arc which starts with the beginning of our spiritual Exodus from the restricted earthly consciousness, reaches its zenith in Heaven, and ends with our return to the reality of the New Earth. As a result of the sacred dance and the Divine rainbow arc which we trace, we are able to experience the whole Universe as a magnificent sea of Light, transparent on all levels. Here we have given one possible interpretation of the connection between the Master's book, The Testament of the Colour Rays of Light, and the Paneurhythmy, but the very possibility of such an interpretation shows the richness and inexhaustible potential of the dance with the colour rays of Light as its celestial constituent. Another celestial constituent of the Paneurhythmy is the sacred Word. God created everything through His Word:
This Word is AUM:
The Master included a special movement and song in the Paneurhythmy - AUM (15). This movement helps us to dissolve into the cosmic vibration of AUM and to experience the omnipresent Divine Spirit filling the whole of Creation. The song AUM is based on the C-major chord, the colour range is from blue to violet and it is connected with the opening of the third eye. The right hand extends upward at an angle of forty-five degrees and links us with the energy of the Sun. The left hand extends down- ward, behind the body, and links us with the energy of the Earth. Thus, by performing the movement (and reversing the position of the hands), by concentrating on the third eye and visualising the colours from blue to violet, by singing AUM, we enter into the omnipresent sacred vibration. We experience this vibration as an etheric current of energies between the Sun and the Earth which permeates our own being and extends to the whole of Creation. The song AUM is sung as follows: AUM, AUM, AUM
As mentioned before, many of the songs of the Master are written in an ancient, pre-Sanskrit language, Vatan. The Master included two other songs in Vatan: 'Evera' and 'The Rising Sun' (Zoun me zoun, zoun me zoun, binom to meto). The Vatan words of these songs refer to the beautiful reality of Divine Love, Wisdom and Truth coming from the past to the new Golden Age. These words in Vatan are living words with their own esoteric vibrations of sound and colour, pink for 'Evera' and white for 'The Rising Sun'. It is interesting to note that the songs written in Vatan occur in the second series of movements (11, 15 and 16) which is an esoteric, mystical series and reveals the mystery of the colour rays of Light as spiritual universities. The second series also contains some songs written by the Master in
Bulgarian (14. Thinking and 16. The Rising Sun - the first part of The
Rising Sun is written in Bulgarian and the second part in Vatan). These
songs sound like mantras and activate higher spiritual vibrations with
corresponding tones and colours (yellow - Thinking, white - The Rising
Sun). The words of these songs are beautiful examples of the great work
done by the Master with the Bulgarian language to raise its vibration
to a higher level. The Paneurhythmy is a dance and as in any dance the movements are of primary importance. The movements of the Paneurhythmy are simple, natural and free flowing, but in their simplicity they represent the primal movements of the human body. They are the natural language of the body and can be used to express a great variety of emotions, thoughts, ideas and psycho-physical sensations. Figuratively speaking, we could say that the movements in the Paneurhythmy are like archetypal movements of the human body which could be charged with living energy in accordance with the psycho-physical condition and spiritual evolution of the individual. The Master put great emphasis on the physical activity of the disciples.
This is very natural because without physical and spiritual strength,
human beings cannot follow the path of the disciple and transform their
lives on Earth. For this purpose the Master gave many sets of physical
exercises which are connected with profound psycho-physical processes
within the human bodies (the physical, etheric, emotional, mental, etc.).
The Paneurhythmy is based on psychic movements:
The main purpose of the Paneurhythmy is to work on all our different bodies simultaneously and to establish a harmonious dynamic connection between them. The Paneurhythmy works on our physical body, etheric body, emotional body, mental body and 'will body', and brings them to higher levels of existence thus facilitating the first, and even the second, resurrection (see Step Two, pp. 57-58, Step Three, p. 70). The Paneurhythmy activates all our bodies, synchronises their functioning, causes an interchange of energies and brings them into perfect balance and harmony. For instance, when we begin the Paneurhythmy with its first movement, Awakening, we open ourselves to receive Divine blessings on all levels of our being. By extending our arms (from hands on shoulders to arms fully outstretched), we relax physically and open our physical body to receive the energy of Nature and to experience a living contact with the elements, the Sun and the Earth. At the same time, we relax psychically, leaving aside all our human problems and worries, and prepare our souls for a great spiritual journey guided by heavenly Music, living Light and sacred Words. On the level of the spirit, inwardly we take the position of children of God who, in joy, openness and sacredness, are ready to enter into the mystery of life vibrating throughout the whole Universe. As a result, from the very beginning of the Paneurhythmy, we harmonise our psycho-physical sensations, thoughts, emotions and spiritual actions. It is amazing that this rich complex of meanings is based on one of the most simple and natural movements of the body, i.e. stretching our arms from the shoulders outward. The harmonious activation of our different bodies has a tremendous effect on the physical organism. It raises the vibrations of the physical body and makes it a powerful base for the whole structure of our being. The physical body itself is built as a perfect organism, the crown of the creativity of Nature. Thus, by establishing harmonious contact between the bodies, we become able to experience our connection with Nature through the physical body. It is a source of great joy and excitement to experience a profound inner connection with Nature when we feel the great Divine Life in every cell of the body. The Paneurhythmy helps us to establish contact with Nature, not only outside ourselves, but inside as well, as the mystery of life within the body and its perfection as a Divine organism. Because of this, the Master said:
It is important to emphasise the role of the Paneurhythmy in activating, revitalising, purifying and illuminating the physical body in harmony with all other bodies within the human being. Through the Paneurhythmy we are reinforcing the life-energies of the physical body and we are creating a powerful etheric body. This transforms our dull, inert physical body (a result of our sedentary style of life) into a very sensitive living organism, full of subtle currents and energies, able to respond perfectly to all outside influences and to the spiritual activities within. Then each movement becomes a channel of life, triggering different energies and shaping an essential 'body-mantra'. In the Paneurhythmy the whole body participates:
This large range of movements forms the very expressive body language of the Paneurhythmy. Due to the psychic nature of the movements and to the synthesis of music, words and colours, each movement is like a 'body-mantra', an 'archetype' capable of releasing the living energies of our body, mind, soul and spirit. Thus, the body language of the Paneurhythmy can express an enormous variety of spiritual ideas, thoughts, emotions and psycho-physical states. It can transform the energy of our bodies and the connections between them; it can create a living spiritual space around us and open new metaphysical dimensions. By dancing the Paneurhythmy and performing the living geometric forms of its movements, we are creating a subtle etheric space around us. We fill this space with the aura of our bodies and begin to experience the alchemy of transformation of energy from one body to another. This process fills all the cells of the body with love, light, life and prana, and connects the body with the substance of the soul which is woven by heavenly Music, living Light and sacred Words. As a result, we experience a metaphysical change of space, time and matter: the space around us becomes 'alive' as a Divine sea of Light, Love and heavenly presence; time receives new mythological dimensions and opens up the currents of time in the higher spiritual worlds; matter reveals its primordial unity, 'not dull and inert, but vibrant, with rhythmic life and light, with celestial sounds of songs and harmonies'. It is obvious that the psychic movements of the Paneurhythmy and their synthesis with music, light and words offer many possibilities for the interpretation of each movement and the whole sequence of movements. The richness of music, light, words, basic movements and their interconnections already suggest a tremendously wide spectrum of spiritual ideas and levels of interpretation. As we saw with the celestial constituents of the Paneurhythmy, this spectrum includes ideas from a cosmological level (for instance AUM), through a large scale of ideas related to Nature, to the finest details of human body language. At the same time, the purpose of the Paneurhythmy is to convey the living message of the approaching cosmic-spiritual Spring and the blossoming of the human soul. The Paneurhythmy is the focus of the whole Teaching of the Master and consequently we can interpret its exercises with at least three different keys:
Naturally, we could continue this list of possible interpretations because the Paneurhythmy is an organic synthesis of music, light, words and movements and reflects the multidimensional spiritual Teaching of the Master. If we choose one key of interpretation, we can explain the entire series of exercises and give a beautiful and rational understanding of each individual movement of the Paneurhythmy. If we choose another key, we can have a different chain of interpretations of the same movements, activating other ideas and symbolic pictures. So, we can have many possible and reasonable interpretations of the movements in the Paneurhythmy co-existing together and expressing the richness and diversity of spiritual life in the epoch of the cosmic-spiritual Spring. The Paneurhythmy was given by a great spiritual Master as a living Divine message for the new epoch of Aquarius. As such, it is even beyond any explanation or interpretation; it affects the participants through the vibrations 'coded' in it, by the actual living presence of the Master and heavenly beings who act spiritually whenever the Paneurhythmy is performed. The richness of the interpretations, however, deepens our understanding and makes us more and more open to receive the living blessings and to respond to the inspired spiritual impulses encoded in the Paneurhythmy. The Master mentioned that 'the Paneurhythmy has still higher forms which will be given later on in the development of humanity.' This is true not only with respect to the new movements, new music and new words, which are to come; this is true also for the deepening of our understanding and the opening of new esoteric dimensions of the Paneurhythmy. Here it is interesting to note that the emphasis on one or another interpretation of the Paneurhythmy changes with the times. The first interpretative key was very popular in the time of the Master amongst the disciples, but it was tremendously reinforced by his own presence as a personification of the energies of the cosmic-spiritual Spring. Later on, after the Master's ascension to Heaven, there was a slight shift in interpretation, placing emphasis on the path of the disciple (the second key) in the new epoch of the cosmic-spiritual Spring. In more recent times, in accord with the spiritual activities on a planetary scale, such as Harmonic Convergence (1987), Earth-weeks and many others, the Paneurhythmy has been interpreted as a planetary action which puts an emphasis on the third key of interpretation, reinforcing and complementing the previous two. The Master himself spoke on many occasions about the magic power of the Paneurhythmy as a dance capable of influencing Nature, the planet Earth, human civilization and even the destinies of cultures and nations. Now, the event of the Second Coming will make the Paneurhythmy one of the main spiritual practices on the Nine-Fold Rainbow Path. On this Path, as we saw in the schools, the Paneurhythmy will blossom with all its 'spiritual colours', reaching new mystical depths as dance-initiation (in Step Four), dance-mystery (in Step Five) and dance-holy communion (in Step Six). The Nine-Fold Rainbow Path organically integrates all interpretations of the Paneurhythmy and makes it a living message from Heaven responding to the exigencies of our time.
The Paneurhythmy, however, comes not to replace the Yoga tradition which inspires millions of people but rather to complement it. The essence of the new epoch is the actualisation and revival of all spiritual paths and the blossoming of all spiritual traditions. At the same time, the new cosmic season offers new forms of spiritual practice in accordance with the stream of energy of the spiritual Spring. The main difference between the classical Yoga tradition and the new spiritual practices given by the Master lies in the direction of the flow of the cosmic-spiritual energy. The Hindu tradition was developed in accord with the involutionary path of humankind when the macrocosmos projects itself into the microcosmos causing the individualisation of the human being. This is why the spiritual techniques have an introverted, individual orientation. The new epoch of Aquarius comes in the evolutionary stream of cosmic-spiritual energy when,on the contrary, the microcosmos projects itself into the macrocosmos and the human being becomes a cosmic-spiritual entity living on all levels of Creation simultaneously. (Let us remember that Jesus Christ was the Divine Master who turned the wheel of involution into the wheel of evolution and this determined the type of spiritual practice in Christianity.) In accordance with the new stream of evolution, the Paneurhythmy emphasises the collective principle - it is a collective dance capable of including hundreds, even thousands of people dancing together - and focuses on the extraverted spiritual activity. When performed properly, the Paneurhythmy awakens at least four circles of living energy: within the human being, between the partners of the couples, around the entire circle of participants, and between the Paneurhythmy circle on the Earth and the higher spiritual worlds in Heaven. The first living circle of energy is activated within the human being. Then the chakras open, all of them or some, completely or partially. The Kundalini energy starts to flow within the human body and this is the first living 'Paneurhythmy circle'. In contrast to Yoga practice, the chakras are not opened directly by focusing on them, but indirectly through a connection with the outer world, by focusing on our contact with Nature, with the Sun and the Earth, with the other participants and the whole human society. Because we are micro-models of the Universe (the structure of which is 'coded' in our chakras), by connecting with the various planes of the outer world, we spontaneously open our chakras even without conscious awareness. By dancing the Paneurhythmy and coming in contact with the various realms of Creation, we are 'projecting' ourselves into the whole structure of the Universe and in so doing we build our light bodies - i.e. our etheric, astral and mental bodies which in turn affect our higher causal, buddhic and atmic bodies. It is interesting to compare the orientation of the spiritual practice in the Yoga tradition with that of the Paneurhythmy. The yogi concentrates his attention on his chakras as points of entry into the higher worlds, and consciously opens all the channels of Kundalini energy within the body. From this perspective his being becomes a whole, minutely detailed microworld, and through this he realises himself as a micro-model of the Universe and dissolves into the whole of Creation, achieving complete self-realisation. In contrast, the participants in the Paneurhythmy concentrate their attention on the various planes of the outer world and by establishing a living, spiritual contact with them, they understand and penetrate the whole structure of Creation. As a result of this, they spontaneously open their chakras and ultimately understand the mystery of their own existence as micro-models of Creation, reaching complete self-realisation. So, the final goals and results of both practices are the same, but their methods are different, reflecting the processes of involution and evolution. As an example of the attention to the outer world, we can look at the three levels where the participants in the Paneurhythmy focus their attention. The first is the physical world. Here one of the main aims of the Paneurhythmy is to establish contact with Nature, the Elements, the Earth and the Sun, and to feel the unity of life everywhere. 'The Paneurhythmy is a conscious interchange with the forces of living Nature' (The Master). As a result of this interchange, we rejuvenate our physical body, strengthening it with energy, health and life, and we purify our etheric body filling it with prana. On the second level, by dancing the Paneurhythmy, we link with the angelic world behind Nature. Through this contact we feel the Divine beauty, harmony and spiritual essence of the whole of Creation and thus we enter into the world of the Universal Soul. In this world we begin to blossom as Divine souls, emitting the fragrance of all human virtues. On the third level, through exercises like 'Thinking', 'Aum', 'The Rising Sun', 'Square' and others, we are able to reach even the highest Divine world. Then, in a very natural, spontaneous and joyful way, we develop as cosmic-spiritual beings and start to live with our physical body on Earth, with our blossoming soul in the angelic world, and with our awakened spirit in the highest Divine world. Through this we open all our chakras allowing the Kundalini energy to circulate within us and to complete one of the most mystical circles of the Paneurhythmy - that within ourselves. Therefore, in the dance of Paneurhythmy we have an original spiritual practice corresponding to all stages of the Yoga path, but in accordance with the evolutionary, ascending cosmic-spiritual stream of energy. For this reason, even based on the first living circle of energies, we can define the Paneurhythmy as a new type of Yoga for the epoch of Aquarius. This understanding is reinforced by the second living circle of energy in the Paneurhythmy - the exchange of energies which takes place between the partners in the couples. The Paneurhythmy is performed in pairs, preferably men and women. All male or all female couples are natural too because the Paneurhythmy is a dance of souls, but the exchange of energy between men and women is the most complex interchange and influences the entire structure of the human being. The second circle of energy activates a new dimension in the life of the human being - the other, the representative of the opposite sex, the partner, the friend. During the dance, an intensive exchange of energy takes place between the partners which affects the whole structure of the human being - his or her physical, etheric, astral and mental bodies, as well as the higher bodies, the causal, buddhic and atmic. The prupose of dancing the Paneurhythmy in pairs is to share feelings, thoughts, subtle psycho-physical sensations, and spiritual experiences. Thus, we enter into a qualitatively new process - forming the dyad. The activation of the second circle of energy brings a harmonisation of all polarities within the human being: the masculine and feminine, electric and magnetic, intellectual and emotional, rational and intuitive. There is a special movement in the Paneurhythmy, Weaving (13), where the partners dance in harmonious coordination and frequently exchange places. As a basic movement, this exercise can have many levels of interpretation - for instance, by harmonising their thoughts, feelings and actions the partners are weaving a beautiful 'life- tapestry' - but from an energy point of view it represents a very powerful interchange of energies within the couple. By harmonising the polarities within us, due to the exchange of energies with the partner, we are moving towards our most cherished goal - becoming a complete, self-realised, perfectly balanced person, with the spirit and the soul (animus and anima) in ideal harmony. As a result of this balance, we are able to overcome the identification with our sex, the main 'stamp' of our incarnation as earthly beings, and to be reborn in higher spiritual worlds as celestial souls. The culmination of this process and the activation of the second circle of energy come in Acquaintance (22). In this movement, for the first time, the partners hold hands; they look each other in the eyes and acknowledge the Divine nature in the other. All preceding exercises lead to this culmination which can become a turning point in our life as man or woman. It provides us with a Divine opportunity to see each other as heavenly souls and to overcome the vibrations of sexual polarisation. This mystical union between souls brings us back to the state of consciousness before the Fall when Adam and Eve saw each other as celestial beings. Thus, the harmonious activation of the second circle of energy brings us back to the higher state of consciousness - that of Adam and Eve before the Fall - full of light, love, friendship, innocence, joy and subtle etheric vibrations. Reaching this point, we are free to go beyond the world of polarities, but hand-in-hand with our partner, towards complete self- realisation. Again, it is very interesting to compare, from this perspective, the Yoga tradition and the Paneurhythmy path. They reflect different cosmic-spiritual streams, but they reach the same goals from opposite directions. One of the main rules for yogic self-realisation is to practice brahmacharia, which is to refrain from intimate contact with the opposite sex. In the Paneurhythmy, through very subtle, friendly and spiritually intimate contact with the partner, we balance our energies and together become able to move beyond the world of polarities. All the exercises after Acquaintance (22) are performed by couples and involve touch of the hands (prior to Acquaintance none of the exercises involve touch). This arrangement reflects the qualitatively new type of relationship between the partners after achieving the state of the New Adam and the New Eve. Other combinations of pairs (men-men, women-women) resolve different spiritual tasks in the context of spiritual friendship and collaboration but, ultimately, they also transcend to the level of relationship between celestial souls. By dancing the Paneurhythmy regularly with different partners we cover the rich spectrum of relationships with the other. Thus, the Paneurhythmy realises in a beautiful way one of the most important dimensions in human life and opens up the path for an initiation into the mystery of the New Adam and the New Eve. For this reason the energy of the second circle is very important and complements perfectly the awakening of the first circle of energy within us. The first and second circles of living energy are closely interconnected. They are two dimensions of one and the same reality. The third living circle of energy activated in the Paneurhythmy introduces us to the third dimension of human life - the spiritual community, society, human culture, even humankind as a whole. This third living stream of energy is activated around the whole circle of participants dancing the Paneurhythmy. It creates a powerful collective spiritual space where the ideas of the new solar culture and the unity of all humankind grow and blossom. This circle of energy combines and reinforces tremendously the radiation of each one of the participants. It acts as a great 'nuclear accelerator' where the vibrations of everyone are increased many times. At the same time, each participant contributes individually to the creation of the spiritual space. His or her spiritual emanation is unique and tangible, and adds a beautiful scent to the overall fragrance of the spiritual group. The third circle of energy has such a great power because it expresses the very essence of the Paneurhythmy - openness, welcome and collectivity. The simplicity of the movements allows everyone to participate in the Paneurhythmy without any preliminary preparation. When entering into the circle, each person immediately feels the welcome of the group, the warmth and friendship of the collective spirit. The number of participants in the dance can vary from two or four persons to more than a thousand people. In the time of the Master, up to a thousand people participated in the Paneurhythmy simultaneously, in dozens of concentric circles of couples, with an orchestra of ten to fifteen musicians playing the Paneurhythmy music in the centre of the circles. This large number of people included participants of all ages (from three or four to eighty years), all social and ethnic groups, with different religious backgrounds. The Paneurhythmy is truly one of the most universal and all inclusive dances in the entire history of human dance culture. To underline this all inclusive nature of the Paneurhythmy, we could compare it with another spiritual dance, Eurythmy, introduced by Rudolf Steiner. Both were given in the first half of the twentieth century and both come from higher spiritual realms, but their tasks and features are different. The learning of Eurythmy requires a minimum of two to three years study; it is performed before an audience, so it has the structure of a cultural spiritual event, realising the communication between 'actors' and 'spectators'. It is normally performed in an enclosed space - theatres, halls, schools or other public places. In contrast, the Paneurhythmy does not require any preparation, it is performed in the open air and goes beyond the structure of a cultural spiritual event, making all participants active performers. In their polarity however, the two dances complement each other and provide a great opportunity for expressing the most subtle impulses within the human soul (as in Eurythmy) and for the blossoming of the human soul in all participants (as in the Paneurhythmy). It is very significant that such a universal dance as the Paneurhythmy, where each one of the participants blossoms and makes a spiritual contribution, came at the dawn of the epoch of Aquarius. The sign of Aquarius itself is connected with the collective energies of humankind (from an astrological perspective Aquarius is in opposition to, and complementary to, Leo - the sign of personal individuality) and it will dominate for the next two thousand years, bringing the new culture of humankind. Referring to the dawning of the new epoch of Aquarius, the Master said:
Some of the characteristics of the new solar culture are described in Step Eight - The Transformation of the Earthly Culture into a Celestial Culture. It explains the process of the transfiguration of the earthly life and the ascent of humankind to higher levels of Being. Many features of the Paneurhythmy in themselves constitute a shift in the energies of the contemporary 'moon culture' to the new 'solar culture'. Now most of the collective cultural activities (theatres, cinemas, concerts, entertainment, group meetings, prime-time television broadcasts, etc.) take place in the evening, often lasting into the night. In contrast, the Paneurhythmy is performed early in the morning and links us with the energies of the rising Sun. These spiritual morning gatherings activate completely different collective energies and create the space for the dawning of the new solar culture. The energies of the new solar culture are coded throughout the whole Paneurhythmy and are especially emphasised in movements like Aum (15), The Rising Sun (16), Early in the Morning (26) and others. The whole second part of the Paneurhythmy, 'Sunbeams', represents the pulsation of light beams from the Sun and their deep symbolic, mythological effect on all human life and especially on human culture. The last movement of this part, 'This is a Paradise', activates the spiritual vibrations of the new solar culture where all participants in formations of rays, each composed of five couples facing the centre, stand in meditation and sing a hymn of the new life on Earth. The spiritual space created by the Paneurhythmy is so powerful that in essence it is a great Divine laboratory for the development of the new human race of Love. This race includes people with open blossoming souls, with spiritually transformed sexual energies, returning as the New Adam and the New Eve to the Garden of Paradise and having a tender relationship with the living forces of Nature and the Earth. These people are the core of the new humankind who bring the reality of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Everyone who enters into the circle of the Paneurhythmy comes into contact with these spiritual energies of the new culture. Hence, the Paneurhythmy becomes a great spiritual school introducing the celestial vibrations of the new culture and the new types of relationship inherent in it. The importance of the Paneurhythmy as a great creative laboratory of the new human race and the new solar culture is determined by its essence, not only as a dance, but as a friendly spiritual gathering also. Often the Paneurhythmy comes as a culmination of a larger collective spiritual event: before the dance the participants may gather to go to an appropriate place for the dance; after the dance there may be joyful feasting or an excursion. This contributes to the creation of the spiritual community and makes the Paneurhythmy a most natural form of collective life. During the dance itself the third circle of energy, in harmony with the other circles of energy, forms the collective spirit of the community. The spiritual atmosphere created by various groups in each performance of the Paneurhythmy is different. It is a result of the collective creativity of the participants as they weave, by their thoughts, feelings and radiations, a unique spiritual atmosphere. This is one of the most characteristic features of the new epoch of Aquarius: forming a multitude of different collective spirits where each has its own individuality and uniqueness. The Paneurhythmy acts as one of the best catalysts in the process of creating the spiritual identity of a community. At the same time, the activated third circle of energy has a very special function: it broadcasts a living message to other spiritual groups all over the world - a message of hope, love and friendship, a call to the world for renewal, uplift and ascent. Thus, the circle of the Paneurhythmy becomes a means of establishing contact, in an invisible but powerful way, with various spiritual groups and societies, forming an etheric chain within the Universal Brotherhood. In comparison with classical Yoga, the Paneurhythmy emphasises the collective approach to the spiritual goals. The yogi reaches cosmic superconsciousness and unity with myriads of light beings through his own spiritual practice. The Paneurhythmy reaches this goal through a common collective work carried out by all the participants. In accord with the spiritual orientation of the Hindu tradition, the yogi looks back to the eternal values of the past Golden Age, while the Paneurhythmy circle looks forward to the coming new Golden Age. The Paneurhythmy circle becomes like a spiritual messenger who proclaims the Good News about the new solar culture that is approaching. If the first and second circles of energy are connected with the micro-cosmic level of the human being (the process of self-realisation of the human monad and the formation of a perfectly balanced dyad), the third circle of energy (the 'third dimension') works on a collective socio-cultural level. It affects human culture and humankind as a whole. The fourth circle of living energy - between the Paneurhythmy circle on Earth and the higher spiritual worlds in Heaven - opens a new, 'fourth dimension' and activates the macrocosmic level of Being which embraces all planes of Creation:
Through the Paneurhythmy we enter into the great cosmic-spiritual circle of life. We become able to communicate with the Elements, with Nature, with higher invisible worlds, and with the whole spiritual hierarchy. Often, when the sky is covered with clouds, the Paneurhythmy circle is projected into the sky, clearing a beautiful circle of blue above. One can feel, even see, a powerful column of light rising up from the Paneurhythmy circle and connecting it with the higher spiritual worlds. This is a column of living light which we can describe as the heavens opening and angelic beings descending and ascending. It is a normal occurrence for many participants to establish a direct contact with the higher spiritual worlds and to receive messages, inspired thoughts and impulses from above. The Paneurhythmy circle links us with the Solar Logos and becomes a subtle instrument for channeling and transmitting Divine Light, Life and Love. As already mentioned, in one of the movements, 'Aum', we merge with the energies of the Sun and the Earth and participate actively in the great metabolism of energies within the solar system. The circle of the Paneurhythmy becomes a living focus of cosmic-spiritual energies, hence fulfilling the mediatory function of humankind between the Solar Logos and life on Earth. The participants purify the etheric layer around the Earth and raise the spiritual vibrations of the kingdoms of Nature. The prime objective of participation in the fourth circle of living energy is to become a channel for bringing down the reality of the Kingdom of God on Earth. In their mediatory function between Heaven and Earth human beings fulfil their sublime purpose. The third and last part of the Paneurhythmy, 'The Pentagram', is a very powerful, 'magical' movement in which formations of rays, each one consisting of five couples, depict a dynamic pentagram which symbolises the cosmic-spiritual being with head, outstretched arms and legs. This living, enacted pentagram symbolises both the cosmic-spiritual image of the human being printed in heaven and the cosmic-spiritual image of the human being actualised on Earth, ready to bring down the reality of the Kingdom of God. Here again, in comparison with the Yoga path, the process of self-realisation has a different unfoldment. Through participation in the collective figure of 'The Pentagram', we reach the understanding of all humankind as one integral cosmic-spiritual Being and only after this do we realise ourselves as individual cosmic-spiritual persons, carrying the potential of all humankind and called to fulfil our Divine mission on Earth. In the Yoga path first we realise ourselves as individual cosmic-spiritual beings, and only after this do we 'print' our Divine image in Heaven and join the myriads of heavenly beings. With the completion of 'The Pentagram' the Paneurhythmy finishes the hour and a half spiritual journey made on the wings of the dance. So, the fourth living circle of energy culminates in 'The Pentagram', having embraced all planes of the Universe and performed the mediatory function of humankind. As a whole, the four circles of living energy cover the entire structure of human life from the micro-cosmic level of existence of the individual human being and his or her relationship with a partner of the opposite sex, through the socio-cultural, meso-cosmic level comprised of the spiritual community in particular, and humankind in general, to the macro-cosmic level of Being including all planes of the Universe where humankind has a divinely predetermined role as a mediator between the worlds. Each circle constitutes a different dimension in human life and activates the particular energies necessary for building up the whole structure of the human being. Thus, we have a four-dimensional living spiritual space where the human being develops as a cosmic-spiritual person and a micro-model of the Universe. All the circles of living energy are closely interconnected, mutually interpenetrating and overflowing, forming a beautiful and organic wholeness. The connections, the harmony and the rhythm between the four living circles are amazing to contemplate. The Paneurhythmy represents a wonderfully balanced stream of polyphonic harmony between the circles of energies where each one, in absolute unity with the others, has its own line of unfoldment with its culmination. They all start to flow simultaneously at the beginning of the Paneurhythmy, accumulating energy and power for unfoldment. Then, the first circle of living energy culminates with the movements of Aum (15) and The Rising Sun (16). These are the last movements of the second series and are connected with the opening of the chakras in the human being. The second living circle of energy culminates in 'Acquaintance' (22) - the mystery of the New Adam and the New Eve. 'Acquaintance' is the first movement of the fourth series and it comes after the third series which has prepared the space for the New Earth and the New Heaven. Almost all movements after 'Acquaintance' to the end of the first part of the Paneurhythmy include exercises where the couples hold hands and move together. The third living circle accumulates power and energy during the whole first part of the Paneurhythmy and then culminates in the second part - Sunbeams - a symbolic poetic image of the life of humankind in Paradise. Finally, after realising the great exchange of energy between the participants and Nature, the Elements, the Earth and the Sun, the fourth living circle culminates in the third part of the Paneurhythmy, The Pentagram - the apotheosis of the Divine power of humankind, capable of bringing the reality of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Meanwhile, all the circles continue their unfoldment at different paces and altogether form a subtle counterpoint of great harmony and beauty. As a result, the Paneurhythmy becomes a dynamic micro-model of the harmony of life in the whole Universe. Even from this short explanation of the four living circles of energy, it is obvious that with the Paneurhythmy we have a new type of spiritual practice born from the evolutionary cosmic- spiritual stream and adequate for the new epoch of Aquarius. It complements perfectly the traditional spiritual practices, especially Yoga, and enriches in a very beautiful, harmonious and artistic way the treasury of spiritual methods and techniques of humankind. MEETING THE DAWN OF THE NEW ERA
These are very sacred, intimate cosmic-spiritual feelings, so we have to perform the Paneurhythmy as a sacred dance, a dance- mystery of transfiguration, a holy act of returning to the Kingdom of God. The spiritual depths of the Paneurhythmy permit this spiritual action of transfiguration but in order to achieve this goal we have to enter into the esoteric dimensions of the spiritual Music, living Light, sacred Words, psychic movements and the Pentagram. Then the Paneurhythmy will be for us a heavenly dance on sacred Earth leading to the Kingdom of God. The purpose of the epoch of Aquarius is to develop humankind's collective cosmic consciousness. The Paneurhythmy created by the Master Peter Deunov serves perfectly for the fulfillment of this main task. The simplicity of the movements and the esoteric depths of its celestial constituents make the Paneurhythmy one of the most efficient and adequate practices for the cosmic-spiritual rebirth of humankind. The participants can be of any age, spiritual background, social and cultural status, etc. The Paneurhythmy can be danced by groups of small numbers up to a thousand or more people. The Paneurhythmy is an outdoor dance. Its aim is the organic interchange of living energies between human beings and Nature, the Earth, the Sun, the Elements, the whole environment, activated by the new metaphysical vibrations of the coming cosmic-spiritual Spring. This is why the most suitable venues for the Paneurhythmy are mountains, sacred sites, meadows, gardens, lawns, and other appropriate open spaces. As a rule the Paneurhythmy is danced only in the morning-time - between sunrise and noon. By dancing the Paneurhythmy in the morning we experience the vibrations of the coming new solar culture. In this culture the main social events will take place in the morning, in harmony with the rejuvenating and transfigurative power of the ascending Sun. The new solar culture will replace the existing moon culture where the informal social gatherings take place mainly in the evening, influenced by the 'metaphysical' vibrations of the Moon. The different formats which the Paneurhythmy can take range from a single one or two hour session, through one or two day workshops, and periodic Paneurhythmy sessions, to a large variety of extended spiritual gatherings - Summer encampments, Paneurhythmy Teachers School, and others. From this point of view, the Paneurhythmy gatherings can develop into the most appropriate and adequate spiritual school introducing the participants to the new epoch of Aquarius. Moreover, the Paneurhythmy as one of the main spiritual practices of the Nine-Fold Rainbow Path can be orchestrated in a great variety of formats appropriate to the one-year spiritual school on each one of the Steps. The spiritual aims and purposes of the Paneurhythmy can have two main
focuses: The Paneurhythmy is most effective when performed as part of the way of life suggested by the Master Peter Deunov. This way of life requires love, friendship, simplicity, purity and a harmonious relationship with Nature and the Earth. Therefore, when we follow this way of life and dance the Paneurhythmy as a new type of spiritual practice for the epoch of Aquarius, we are experiencing the dawn of the new era. At the beginning we quoted the inspired vision of St. John from The Revelation and suggested that the new song sung in Heaven is the Message for the coming new epoch of Aquarius:
Now we can summarise that the Paneurhythmy is one of the most perfect channels of this new Divine song. It announces the Good News about the coming cosmic-spiritual Spring in the life of humankind and enacts the reality of the New Heaven and the New Earth. Thus, the Paneurhythmy becomes a blessed Divine dance which helps us to establish the Kingdom of God down on Earth. So, let us dance!
